Entry Requirements
Nigerian citizens require a B-1/B-2 tourist visa to visit the United States. Nigeria is not part of the Visa Waiver Program. Apply at the nearest US Embassy (Lagos or Abuja).
Applying for a US B-1/B-2 Visa
- Apply at the US Embassy in Lagos (Mission Street) or Abuja
- Complete the DS-160 online form first
- Pay the MRV (Machine Readable Visa) fee ($185 USD)
- Schedule interview appointment — this is where the long waits occur
- Bring: passport, DS-160 confirmation, photo, bank statements, employment letter, hotel/event booking confirmation
Flights
Direct flights from Lagos (LOS) to the US are operated by United and Delta (via connection). Most Nigerian travellers connect through London Heathrow, Amsterdam, Paris Charles de Gaulle, or Doha. Total travel time to LAX: typically 16–22 hours depending on routing.
