Long Beach LA28 Olympics Visitor Guide

Venue clusters, where to stay, car-free transport, dining areas and a realistic event-day strategy.

Long Beach will be one of the densest LA28 spectator hubs, with waterfront competitions and several venues near Downtown. It can work as a stand-alone Olympic base—if your ticket schedule is concentrated in Long Beach rather than across Los Angeles.

Updated September 30, 2026: Venue names and competition assignments remain subject to change. Confirm each session on the official LA28 schedule before booking a nonrefundable room.

Why Long Beach Works

Long Beach’s Olympic plan clusters handball, aquatics, climbing and shooting near Downtown and the waterfront, while additional events are planned around Belmont Shore and Marine Stadium. The official destination site says Long Beach will host 11 Olympic events, the most of any city outside Los Angeles.

This concentration is valuable because several venues can be reached on foot or with a short local transit trip from a Downtown hotel. It does not mean every Long Beach venue is walkable from every other venue: Marine Stadium and Belmont Shore require separate planning.

Best Areas to Stay

Downtown Long Beach

This is the strongest all-around base for spectators with multiple waterfront sessions. It has the broadest hotel selection, the Metro A Line terminus, restaurants and walkable access to the convention-center area. Choose a property based on the actual walking route, not straight-line distance.

Belmont Shore

Belmont Shore suits beach-focused tickets and visitors who prefer a neighborhood atmosphere. Hotel inventory is thinner, and rail access is limited, so check local bus and Games-shuttle plans before booking.

East Long Beach

This area can reduce travel to Marine Stadium, but it is less convenient for Downtown nightlife and rail trips to Los Angeles. It works best when rowing or canoe sprint dominates your schedule.

Who should not base here: Visitors whose tickets are mostly in Inglewood, Pasadena, the San Fernando Valley or Exposition Park may spend too much time crossing the region.

Getting There Without a Car

Metro’s A Line connects Downtown Long Beach with Downtown Los Angeles, but it is a long regional trip rather than a quick hop. For same-day events in both cities, leave a major buffer and avoid pairing sessions with a tight gap.

Local buses and announced Games services will fill important links to the coast and Marine Stadium. Wait for the official spectator route before assuming a normal stop will operate beside a venue entrance. If you drive to the area, use an official park-and-ride plan rather than expecting venue parking.

Build a Long Beach Day

Pair activities by cluster. A Downtown handball session can combine with the Aquarium area, Shoreline Village or a meal along Pine Avenue. Belmont Shore tickets pair better with Second Street and the beachfront. Keep optional sightseeing close to your next venue and protect at least two hours around entry and post-event crowd movement.

Do not plan an ocean swim simply because your event is on the waterfront. Check posted water-quality advisories, lifeguard information and beach rules on the day.

Food and Essentials

Downtown offers the easiest mix of quick meals, sit-down restaurants and convenience purchases. Belmont Shore’s Second Street has a concentrated dining strip. On event days, eat earlier than usual, reserve where possible and keep a backup counter-service option.

Carry sun protection and a light layer. Coastal conditions can feel cooler than inland LA, especially later in the day, while exposed seating can still deliver strong sun.

Sample Two-Day Plan

Day One: Downtown Cluster

Arrive by late morning, leave luggage, eat near the hotel and attend one waterfront session. Keep the evening flexible for dinner and a walk around the harbor rather than crossing into Los Angeles.

Day Two: Coastal Cluster

Travel to Belmont Shore or Marine Stadium using the official spectator route. Add only one nearby activity, then return to Downtown before the heaviest late-night demand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stay in Long Beach without renting a car?

Yes, especially for Downtown sessions. Belmont Shore and Marine Stadium will require closer attention to local buses and Games-specific shuttles.

Is Long Beach close to SoFi Stadium?

They are in different venue zones. A map can make the trip look manageable, but event traffic and transfers mean you should not schedule tight back-to-back sessions.

Should I split my hotel stay?

A split stay can help when several tickets are in Long Beach and several are in northern or western LA. Balance saved time against checkout, luggage and hotel-change costs.
